Friday 19th April 2019 (Good Friday)

This Easter weekend promises amazing weather. This afternoon - Good Friday we drove over to the other side of Lake Zurich simply to enjoy the colourful scenes of apple and cherry trees in blossom.

On the side of the Etzel there is one particular viewpoint I enjoy. From there you can see pretty well all of Hombrechtikon at one glance. In the foreground is the island of Ufenau.

Dying eggs

Our Easter tradition includes dying Easter eggs using onion-skin dye.
This is how it works

First gather your materials. A pair of scissors, some cotton thread, fresh white eggs from the farm and freshly picked wild flowers and leaves.

Cut some pieces of nylon tights.

Then choose some attractively shaped leaves or flowers and

…fasten them to the egg using the nylon and a piece of thread.

Soak a quantity of onion skins in a pan of hot water. When the mixture is a rich brown colour, boil the eggs in it for ten minutes.

When the eggs are ready, take them out and rinse them in cold water.

Then comes the exciting bit:

…cut open the nylon and look at the pattern which the flowers and leaves have made on the egg.

The only thing left then is to polish the eggs up with some butter…

…and lay them out decoratively for Easter Sunday.

Sunday 21st April 2019

On Easter Sunday we joined together with others for a wonderful Easter breakfast and celebration at our local church.
