English

English tailored to fit your needs

I can offer what most language schools can’t: I can tailor what, how and when you learn so that it best fits your needs.

What?

I give all-round coaching in English to all levels from beginner to proficiency. What we learn depends on what you need - whether that is English for social contact, travelling, business, education or some special need.

My standard is British English, but I also have a good knowledge of the way American English is used.

The first lesson usually takes the form of a learner profile which helps me to plan what you want and need to learn.

How?

Most of my teaching is done in English. When the need arises I can give explanations in German or French.

I use the so-called  “task-based” approach to teaching.

I give all-round coaching in English, but I have a lot of experience in the field of phonetics, so I am well-equipped to help you improve your English pronunciation and intonation.

Most of my lessons are individual lessons, but I would also be happy to work with groups of two to seven people.

When?

I give English lessons in several business locations around Zurich, but why not contact me to see if we can find a time when you and I are both free?

Where?

171018 119 HombiAutumn
I am normally able to offer lessons at my home. The address is:
Tödistrasse 9, 8634 Hombrechtikon.
(Hombrechtikon Tobel)

However, at the moment I am not doing face-to-face lessons at my home.

Instead of face-to-face lessons, I am offering remote lessons. My preference is to use the online tool Zoom, but if you prefer we can use Teams or some other tool.
Alternatively, if you live or work in Hombrechtikon, Wolfhausen, or nearby I may well be able to come and give a lesson where you are. And even if you are located elsewhere it may still be possible to arrange lessons. Let’s talk!

How much?

Individual lessons in or near Hombrechtikon

Please contact me and we’ll work out a fair price.

Other lessons

Books

You will usually need to buy some English books. Most learners need a Students' Book, a Workbook and a Grammar book. These will cost between 120 and 150 francs.

I can advise you on what books to buy and where to get them.

Who I work with

A wide variety of people learn English with me. Here are some of the kinds of people who are taking lessons or have recently been taking lessons with me:
  • A supply chain manager in a well-known chocolate company
  • Secondary school English teachers
  • Secondary school English students
  • Middle managers working for a large engineering and electronics conglomerate
  • Middle managers working for a large IT services corporation
  • A drag racing enthusiast
  • A medical director working for an international health care company
  • A lawyer who is the member of the Netherlands Medical Research Ethics Commission
  • An assembly manager working for an agricultural machinery manufacturer
  • A priest
  • An IT specialist who has to use English to communicate with programmers in Asia
  • An electrical engineer working for a hearing systems company
  • A nail designer
  • A dressmaker
  • Several people whose family members can speak more English than they do and they want to catch up
  • People who want to improve their English so they can get more out of their holidays in the USA
  • A six-year-old whose family were soon going to work in Chicago
  • Twelve-year-old twins from another European country who are taking additional English lessons
  • People who often receive English-speaking guests and who would like to be able to hold a conversation with them
  • Several people who work in the healthcare sector (hospitals, clinics etc). Because they work irregular shifts they can’t attend a regular language school
  • People looking for new jobs
  • A neighbour who wants to improve her French pronunciation.
  • A group of children who do home schooling.

In other words they are a varied group of people and if you live round here, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t join them.
